Euchre &
Écart¨¦ is a dual-mode game which may be configured to play
either Écart¨¦ or two-player Euchre, or even a hybrid of the
two.
Écart¨¦ is a two-person card game which originated in France
and was popular in Paris in the early 19th century. The
origins of Euchre are much less clear, but the majority
opinion is that both Euchre and Écart¨¦ were derived from a
common root (possibly the Spanish game named Triumph). Other
sources believe that Euchre evolved from Écart¨¦. In any case,
Écart¨¦'s popularity was initially established in Europe, and
Euchre's in the USA (possibly via the Pennsylvania Dutch).
Euchre was
initially a four-handed game, from which the two-player
version was derived. Écart¨¦ has always been a two-player game.
Euchre &
Écart¨¦ also provides many documented rules and scoring
variations - plus the ability to mix and match the rules to
create interesting custom hybrids. |
